LJLCBA HEAD COACH

Lifelong resident of Bay Shore, "Lumberjack" Lou Llovet loves the sport of boxing. It has taken him on many journeys since his first introduction to the sport back in 1989.

Lou embraced the sport of boxing the same way as he did when playing football for Bay Shore. Only now he was no longer a kid playing high school football. He was a 23 year old husband, father, full time employee of the town of Islip, and the owner operator of his own tree-trimming service. Yet, through it all, he was able to devote the time needed to go on to win the New York Golden Gloves as an amatuer fighter, and both the Long Island Heavyweight and USBF Light-heavyweight title belts as a professional fighter.

Lou's love for boxing has now come full circle. "It's all about the kids now. I've accomplished everything I set out to do in boxing. Now it's time to give some-thing back", he states. Through the boxing program at his academy in Bay Shore, he hopes to teach local kids that anything is possible when you devote yourself to clean living, dedication, and hard training.

With the support from his wife Charlene and children Char-Char, Joey, and Marisa, Lou has rallied support from his friends and fellow community members. He has assembled a staff of capable and qualified coaches who volunteer their time to assist him at LJLCBA.

COACH HERMAN WILLIAMS

My work with kids started in my youth, working at the local recreation center, growing up in a tough neighborhood, I saw what happened to many of my friends and what almost hap[pened to me. Around this time, when I was 16, I met a man who helped to change me for the better. Otis was my first martial art instructor. Through his teaching, I learned discipline and self-esteem.

Tgus started my journey of self-discovery and responsibility to reach out to the youth in the neighborhood. I started a youth softball league that I ran until I went into the military. After my from boot camp, I met my next martial art teacher, roberto Torres. Aside from being a teacher in self defense, he was an aspiring professional boxer. Thus began my journey into boxing and other various martial arts. During my 20 years of study with Roberto, we trained with world famous grandmasters of many different styles. I also competed in many full contact tournaments around the country and was ranked #1 in the country and #4 in the world. I have now been training boxers for almost 20 years. Through the years I have trained many Golden Glove champions, including the current #1 ranked heavyweight in the country. Now, I continue to reach out to kids. No gangs, no drugs, building self-esteem and a sense of responsibility and respect is what we want each child to come away with. Through boxing they learn  discipline and a strong work ethic, some will compete, others that work will take them to the top in sports and life. Thank you for your support. Coach Herman
